Moreover, Glenn Philips bowled for the first time in test matches. Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque fell into the trap of a new bowler by gifting their wicket.

After Mahmudul Hasan’s dismissal, the middle-order batsmen struggled and departed with these low scores by facing many dot balls:

New Zealand bowlers were aiming to wrap up the innings for less than 270 to 280 runs.

The tail-enders added a completing 37 runs before the umpire declared stumps due to poor light conditions. These crucial runs helped Bangladesh cross the 300-run milestone:

  1. Nayeem Hasan: 16 runs from 27 balls( including 3 fours)
  2. Taijul Islam: 8 runs from 21 balls ( including 1 four)
  3. Shoriful Islam: 13 runs from 9 balls ( including 3 fours)

BAN vs NZ 1st Test Day 1 2023 Highlights: New Zealand Bowlers dominating performance

The New Zealand bowlers restricted Bangladesh from reaching a total above 400 runs with these best performances:

  1. Glenn Phillips: 53-4 in 16 overs ( includes a maiden over)
  2. Kyle Jamieson: 52-2 in 17 overs ( includes 5 maiden overs)
  3. Ajaz Patel: 76-2 in 24 overs ( includes a maiden over)
  4. Tim Southee: 43-0 in 14 overs ( includes 2 maiden overs)
  5. Ish Sodhi: 71-1 in 14 overs ( includes a maiden over)

New Zealand skipper Tim Southee wasn’t able to take a single wicket of the Bangladesh batsmen on Day 1. There are possibilities for Tim Southee to wrap up Bangladesh’s 1st innings by taking a wicket on Day 2.

Bangladesh would be aiming to reach around 330 to 350 runs on Day 2. But, it is highly impossible for Shoriful Islam and Taijul Islam to retain their wicket without any proper experience with the bat.

Can Bangladesh tail-enders enhance their team’s total on Day 2?

Is it possible for Tim Southee to take the first wicket of the match by wrapping up Bangladesh’s innings to 310 runs?

Can New Zealand Batsmen lead their 1st innings with a huge margin by easily chasing the target?

The answers to the above questions will be witnessed on the 2nd Day of the Test Match between Bangladesh and New Zealand on 29th November 2023…
