Chandika Hathurusingha praised Najmul as a captain: Deserves a Long Term Captaincy

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Chandika Hathurusingha praised Najmul as a captain after winning the first test match against New Zealand by 150 runs.

Chandika Hathurusingha as a Bangladesh Head coach experienced a proud moment about his team winning against the toughest opponents by a huge margin.

The debutant skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto showed great maturity and displayed an example of how to lead from the front.

Hathurusingha lauded his team’s intensity with the bat and ball during the first test match at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

According to Hathurusingha, the players tend to get better with the increased freedom offered.

The visitors were unable to break the crucial partnerships built by Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mominul Haque. As a result, the match was completely out of the Black Caps control.

Moreover, Hathurusingha believes that  Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque are guiding the youngsters to come up with a different approach.

Chandika Hathurusingha praised Najmul as a captain by stating that he has a bright future ahead. Moreover, the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) will decide whether Najmul should be appointed as a full-time skipper or not.

Interestingly, Bangladesh won the World Test Championship match for the first time on their home ground.

Bangladesh Head Coach’s opinion

Chandika Hathurusingha praised Najmul as a captain: Bangladesh Head Coach’s opinion

Bangladesh Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha praised Najumal as a captain by highlighting his leadership skills:

“In cricket, captaincy and leadership are the two most important factors. His captaincy was brilliant by leading the youngsters and pressuring the opponents. Najmul’s tactics were one step ahead of the opposition. Moreover, the field placements were accurate helping to grab crucial wickets and prevent scoring huge runs. Though it was unconventional, the strategies were very effective.

Najmul has a very bright future ahead as the Bangladesh test skipper. As a perfect leader, he led his team from the front by scoring a crucial century in the 2nd innings. He maintained the standard of the game and set a perfect platform for his team. However, the decision rests with the BCB to appoint him as a full-time captain. I hope the decision will be taken at the right time.”

In Shakib Al Hasan’s absence, Hathurusingha assures that Najmul will continue to lead Bangladesh towards victory in the forthcoming matches.

Additionally, Hathurusingha shares that his team could have scored higher in the first innings of the test match:

“I felt we should have posted a high total in the 1st innings. But we decided to come up with a different approach when the wicket was favorable. Things can be favorable if a player follows their approach. At the same time, the situation can turn against you if the plan isn’t implemented accurately. In the first test match, we performed according to our plan and the pitch conditions. Overall, I am satisfied with the team’s performance in both the innings.”

Chandika Hathurusingha praised Najmul as a captain by highlighting the team’s performance:

Hathurusingha admitted the fact that it wouldn’t be possible to expect a huge win for Bangladesh against all the teams, especially with the toughest opposition team like New Zealand.

“It isn’t possible to turn around the situations instantly and experience game-changing moments. Though we can’t win every match of the series and tournament, still we will try to do it. I strongly believe that implementing the proper things for our team’s welfare eventually yields good outcomes.

We played a full-fledged game at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. It is completely unimaginable to win against a dominating team. We have to start from scratch again. Likewise, we are striving to begin the 2nd test match similar to the previous one. We have to undergo the same stress, passion, hope, and win to accomplish successful results.”

Chandika Hathurusingha clarifies that Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal’s unavailability for the next few months has made Bangladesh enter into a rebuilding zone.

Moreover, Hathurusingha highlights the freedom provided to the players in international test matches, in a similar way to the National Cricket League (NCL) matches:

“ A youthful squad team equipped with valuable skills exhibits excellent performance when they are offered the liberty to express their natural playing style without constraints identical to the NCL. 7 players out of the playing XI are from the domestic cricket. The youngsters have shown their energy by dynamically performing on the field even on Day 5. The young players gave their best performance during the first test match.”

Overall, Hathurusingha praised Najmul as a captain for brilliantly guiding the youngsters. Also, the Bangladesh coach from his above statement tries conveying an important message to the youngsters to continue their same performance in the upcoming matches.
