I do not focus on outcomes, Dream Big for Big Tournaments: Najmul Hossain Shanto

The current captain of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto expresses his thoughts about getting help from the former national squad skippers Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Mahmudullah. Najmul says that these former skippers will continue helping him in his tough times like they have been doing in the past as well as the present.

At present, they are getting ready and preparing themselves for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is tentatively scheduled to start in the USA and West Indies on 2nd June 2024.

Najmul’s Experienced Leadership, Now on a Global Platform!

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the 25-year-old Bangladeshi cricketer, was appointed as a full-time skipper across all formats this year on the 12th of February. However, Najmul has earlier experienced leading the national squad in an ICC event, where he directed the team against India and Australia. This was during the absence of Shakib Al Hasan in the ICC World Cup 2023.

But this time, the things are not going to be the same! Keen observation will be made about Najmul’s leadership qualities and ability to head the squad. Especially, when Najmul will have to take center stage during the prestigious global event, every eye will be on him.

He added, saying it would be very supportive to those who are going to play their first World Cup.

In the same video, Najmul says, “I have got to learn a lot from those experienced cricketers who also led the team earlier”. Najmul Hossain showed his gratitude by saying, “Whenever I needed something, Shakib and Mahmudullah came forward and helped me in my difficult times. So, for this upcoming T20 World Cup, I feel the same that those experienced cricketers will be a great support and pillar throughout my World Cup journey”.

Also, Najmul added that he is not thinking about the outcomes and losing his sleep over it. Rather, he has been urging his teammates to focus even on the smallest things and implement them right.

“Big Tournament, Big Dream”: Najmul Hossain Shanto

Najmul says, “When we are going to play in a big tournament like the T20 World Cup, likely we have to dream big. So, I don’t focus on my outcomes, and I don’t like it. I rather believe that if we are working on our processes in the right way, something good will come automatically”.

He added, “Anyhow, this time for the T20 World Cup, we want to perform very well as a team, and we are striving our best to achieve what we haven’t achieved in the past. And, we are not going to keep more expectations because doing that will just increase the pressure and nothing else. So we are just going to follow the process and focus on little things that will bring us the best results”. Also, he adds about getting warm wishes and support in the USA.

Najmul’s Gratitude towards Fans and Supporters

Najmul feels grateful for the fans and says, “It is very heart-warming to see the supporters following us and standing for us, which keeps the team ahead. I hope they continue to support us even in the toughest times”.

Also, he added, “I feel that it is a dream for a cricketer to represent their country, and get a chance to play on a bigger stage like the T20 World Cup 2024. And, for any cricketer, this would be the proudest and most thrilling moment”.

Najmul expressed what he felt and said, “For me, I am looking forward to enjoying this moment and fulfilling my responsibilities to the team. Keeping this as my primary goal, I don’t even want to think that if I am a captain, that would increase my responsibilities. I don’t want to think that way and I want to enjoy my responsibilities every day”.

Bangladesh vs. India: Najmul & Teammates Focus for Warm-up Match on June 1

Right after the opening warm-up match against the USA got canceled, Bangladesh is focusing on their 2nd and last warm-up match which is against India, on 1st June 2024.

On 7th June 2024, Bangladesh will kick-start their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in Dallas. This is set to happen before their Group D matches where they would be facing South Africa, Netherlands, and Nepal.

Najmul Hossain Shanto feels himself a lucky captain of Bangladesh, as he has experienced cricketers like Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Mahmudullah.

As Najmul said, he along with his teammates are focusing on correcting little things and doing it perfectly. And, this would bring them success. However, Najmul feels very strongly that if there is a situation where he has to face difficult times, he has Shakib and Mahmudullah to support him.
