During a recent public interaction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni reveals his retirement plans. After retiring from IPL, MSD shared that he wants to join the Indian Army and spend valuable time.
The former Indian skipper officially retired from international cricket on 15th August 2020. But, Dhoni has been playing for his franchise in the IPL (Indian Premier League ) for the last 3 years consecutively.
MS Dhoni will be the captain of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. Under his leadership, CSK won the IPL trophy for the 5th time after being triumphant by defeating Gujarat Titans in the previous edition’s finals.
Moreover, CSK were the 5-times defending champions under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. As a result, Dhoni is the successful joint captain to clinch the IPL trophy 5 times.
The mini-auction for IPL 2024 concluded successfully in Dubai by witnessing an intense bidding war during the event. Three months ahead of the 17th edition of IPL, MS Dhoni’s squad acquired the six best players at the best-bargained price.
Many fans expected that the IPL 2023 would be Dhoni’s farewell season. However, the veteran batsman cum wicket-keeper opposed after the IPL 2023 finals stating that he would strive to play another season for his fans by working on his fitness.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan clarified that only the skipper MS Dhoni could give direct answers if it is going to be his last edition in the IPL through the conversation:
“Beyond this, if the truth is needed, the captain has to come in person and answer directly. As per MSD’s point of view, he doesn’t reveal what he is planning and going to implement”
Furthermore, the Chennai Super Kings gives an update about MS Dhoni’s knee injury and physical fitness:
“At present, he is completely fit. Earlier, he was undergoing rehabilitation. He started performing workouts in the gym regularly. Probably, we can observe his practice in nets in the next 10 days and see him in action. He will regain perfect fit ahead of the IPL 2024.”

“ What is your aim apart from cricket?”
MS Dhoni gives a fascinating answer to the above fan’s question:
“Still I haven’t thought about it. You know…I am still playing cricket in the IPL. It would be intriguing to witness what I become eventually post my cricketing career. One thing is certain. I want to spend my considerable time with the Indian Army. The reason is that for the past few years, I wasn’t able to do that. Hopefully, if I get an opportunity I will be available to serve the army.”
Earlier, Dhoni was awarded as a qualified paratrooper by holding the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian territory army.

The BCCI ( Board of Control for Cricket in India), decided to retire the number 7 jersey worn by MS Dhoni to honor his valuable contribution and success provided to the Indian cricket team.
Rajeev Shukla along with the other members of BCCI has taken this decision to make a tribute to the former Indian legendary cricketer.
Earlier, in October 2023, an interviewer posed a question to MS Dhoni about his retirement from cricket. MSD clarified in a funny manner asking to correct the question by stating that he has retired only from international cricket, but not from the IPL.
Additionally, Dhoni clarified by stating that he wants people to remember him as a good human being rather than the best cricketer. MSD feels that it is a typical process until a human lives.

Overall, the 42-year-old cricketer hasn’t fully confirmed his future in IPL and shares his desire to join the army. He hints that he hasn’t thought about his career apart from cricket, which means that fans could witness MS Dhoni’s presence for another two or three seasons of IPL.
