Najmul Shanto as the new skipper for Bangladesh, is set to lead his team ahead of the 2-match test series against New Zealand. The forthcoming test match series against New Zealand commences from 28th November to 2nd December 2023.
The Blackcaps after the exit from the World Cup 2023 semi-finals, will be aiming to have a fresh start in their first test match of this series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Najmul Hossain Shanto has been named as the 13th test skipper of the Bangladesh cricket team.
The regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan was ruled out of the series due to an index finger injury. Litton Das, the vice-captain of the test cricket team, was appointed to lead his team against New Zealand.
Litton Das wanted to spend time with his family by avoiding the New Zealand series. To enjoy the golden moments with his newborn child, Litton Das requested paternity leave.
Also, the Bangladesh opener, Tamim Iqbal decided to bypass the upcoming test match series against the Black Caps. The fast bowler Ebadot Hossain under rehabilitation due to knee surgery misses out on the upcoming series.
Moreover, Bangladesh’s fast pacer Taskin Ahmed has been rested following the severe muscle tear during the World Cup 2023.
The selection committee lacked an alternative to replace the best and most experienced Test match captain.

Jalal Yunus shared some additional facts about Litton Das. Earlier, the BCB requested Litton Das to return ahead of the 2nd Test match against New Zealand. The 2nd Test match starts from 6th December to 10th December 2023 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Litton insisted on being completely away from the test match series. He highlighted the presence required by his family during the auspicious occasion. To spend time with his newborn daughter, Litton Das has been granted a month’s leave.
Litton Das earlier led his team in a one-off test match against Bangladesh in June 2023. Litton’s captaincy, guided his team to a comfortable win by 546 runs against Bangladesh.

Earlier, Najmul temporarily took over the ODI captaincy from the regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan after facing a fracture on his finger.
With the absence of Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das, Najmul Shanto led his team for the third and final ODI match of the series against New Zealand in September 2023.
New Zealand whitewashed Bangladesh in the 3-match ODI series with a result of 2-0.
Najmul Shanto as the new skipper for Bangladesh in tests, has a huge responsibility to make his team win against the toughest opposition.
It is a real challenge for the 25-year-old cricketer to prove his leadership skills against the Black Caps.

Recently, the BCB has listed the names of the players included in the test match squad under Najmul’s leadership. This excludes the names of many key players in the squads as shown below:

It would be an extremely challenging task for Bangladesh to win against the Black Caps. Especially, under the leadership of an inexperienced captain and the absence of key players, the equation becomes further complicated.
Bangladesh after facing a severe loss in World Cup 2023, needs to gain confidence by performing well in the forthcoming series.
Furthermore, the New Zealand cricketers will be playing in an aggressive mode to secure their spot in the cycle of the World Test Championship 2023 to 2025.
The former test champions of 2021 to 2023, with a tough batting and bowling line-up may pose the most difficult challenge for Bangladesh in the test match series.
